I 💗 gray sweatshirts, but this one did not look flattering on me. Refashion time!!
A friend of mine cleaned out her closets and gifted me a ton of clothes to use for crafts and refashions. My goal was to make the giant turtleneck smaller and sportier. I love how it turned out, and it was fairly easy to alter.
Refashion time: 60 min
Tools:
Brother Sewing Machine
buttonhole foot
Serger
a shoelace
fusible interfacing
thread
seam ripper
scissors

Remove turtleneck with a seam ripper (this takes forever.) Move on to scissors.
Mark where you want to cut or eyeball it. 😳
Cut about 4-5 inches off the width at the back seam, and cut 2ish inches off the bottom following the original shape.
Open up new turtleneck.
Mark where buttonholes will be on the wrong side of fabric.
On the wrong side of fabric, iron interfacing just where buttonholes will be. Mark buttonhole size, again. Doh.
Attach buttonhole foot, and then google how to use it! 😆 Practice making buttonholes on a scrap piece from the turtleneck.
Cut down the middle of the buttonhole with a seam ripper and snip threads. Use a pin as a stopper, so you don't cut through your new buttonhole.
Tah-dah! Pat yourself on the back!
Sew into a huge tube with right sides together. Thread shoelace through buttonholes.
Fold turtleneck so it is wrong sides together.
Put turtleneck inside shirt right sides together and pin evenly. Baste together stretching turtleneck to fit neck opening.
Serge raw edges of shirt and turtleneck. Sew a stretch stitch right next to serged seam.
